My six year old Madalynne is having issues with her little b and her little d.

It is obviously holding her back in her reading skills .

So i reached out to facebook world and asked for suggestions.

Here is what we ended up doing.

Thanks Jenny P. for this example.

"Write bed at the top of her paper and show her the bed posts! They face the way they are supposed to go!"

SO we jazzed it up by adding shaving cream to the mix!

Here are other suggestions i plan on using.

What do you use to help your child with this issue ?

Let me know if any of these suggestions work for you!

Rhonda says: Have her make a b and d with her fingers. Tell her to look at the way they look and then remind her the b comes first in the alphabet (just like the b on her left finger is first when she looks at it.)

Amme says: I taught my girls by saying "d" stands for door and the letter looks like a doorknob on a door.

Mary says : I'm 49 and still do that sometimes. lol The d points at me the b points away from me.

Bailey says: My mom always said that "b" bounces forward and "d" drops back.

Connie says: Tyler's program teaches the parents to say "little c, then little d" over and over again as they are writing little d. And for the parents to deomonstrate it for them as they keep repeating "little c, then little d".

Try this for your little one.

Great for fine motor skills.

Cut out different shapes out of construction paper.

Color the ends of clothespins to coordinate with the paper.

Mix them all up and have your child clip the clothespin to the shape.

Ask questions such as What Color is this?

What shape is this ?

What shape does this color go on ?

Can you count how many clothespins are on each shape ?

You get the point.

I store all of them in a clear shoe box container and hide away for school time only. This is great for Pre-K or Kindergarten.

I love the flexibility that comes with home schooling.

Usually we do Friday as our day off, however yesterday was $1 day at the Children's Museum.

So of course we switched it around to be able to go, so today we are doing school.

Outside my window...i see the farmers beginning to harvest their crops, the leaves of the trees are beginning to change into their beautiful harvest color. The Sun is peaking up behind the clouds.

I am thinking... about the future. Even though i don't know what it looks like i know that God has me in his hands :)

I am thankful for...God making all things work together for my good.

I am wearing...socks, comfy pants and a wonderful hoody.

I am remembering...how i must be crazy for homeschooling my kids!

I am creating...a future generation that will rock this world for Jesus!

I am going...to go make a big pot of coffee.

I am reading..the word. the bread of life.

I am hoping...that the the things of my hearts desire will come to pass.

On my mind... wow what a loaded question.

From the learning rooms...That crying is the new in healthy thing :)

Noticing that...when a 16 month old is getting teeth there is NO remedy that will take that pain away.

Pondering these words...I will run I will run this race. I will do it all for Love. Your love compels me for your love controls my heart and i can't i can not get away. I will fight this good fight of faith and I will do it all for love you are my great reward your so worth fighting for i can't wait to see your face.

A Loaf of Bread.

Who would think a loaf of bread could bless someone so much ?

Every Thursday in the Summer the kids and I walk the streets of Fenton to watch the people, meet the people heck just be among the people. We love to look at the crafts and the fruits and vegetables, really it's a lot of fun!

Each week the kids love stopping at a homeschool families booth. The girls in the family make all sorts of crafts so each week we pick up something little.

We are up to like 10 felt finger puppets! They only cost $.50 a piece and it blesses their family so much to see our kids love the things they make.

Tonight they had some really cute tic tac toe games that the girls had made. They come in a little pouch and then the outside has squares. The circles have been hand painted with x and o's. I love it.

Now for the bread part. Every week there is samples of this amazing bread!!! It's from Great Harvest Bread Company. The owner is sooo sooo sweet. She always is passing out samples to my kids and just oozing with sweetness. All their cookies and breads are delicious. Anyways tonight was different. The kids have been sooo incredibly good this week with structure and listening ect... but i've had the feeling of I suck am i doing this right ect... Well we walked away from the table to go to our car and the lady came chasing me down. She said i just wanted to let you know your sweet and gentle spirit is so hard to find. You seem like a great momma with well behaved respectful children. She continued to hand me a loaf of this Cinnamon Concoction called Bread and say i just want to bless you for you being you. It took everything in me not to cry. For me it had nothing to do with the bread it was the fact that my obedience to GOd to train My children resulted in a light to this women. A light that she said was usually hard to find. Thank you Jesus for letting my children shine and for allowing me to be apart of turning that switch on in them!

By the way the bread company is located on Perry Road in Grand Blanc! Amazing Amazing yummy stuff over there!

I found this old table at a garage sale for $4 about 2 years ago. The kids have used for a game table ect... I had a bottle of Chalkboard Spray Paint and I decided to make a Chalkboard Table.

Yesterday we finished schooling and i had to put away some laundry so i sent the kids outside for "recess".

Here is what i found when i came down.

They were using Markers and q-tips, and yes i let them continue. It's washable. Notice the cash box in the background ? They were charging .50 for each one. Daddy was coming home for lunch they could smell him a mile away! He did bless them for their work. What a great daddy!

I emailed this to my friend the other day pertaining to a situation they are going thru. I felt God had showed me this during my morning devotion time. I just thought it might help someone else here as well. Don't just be a lurker leave a comment i love to read comments especially if something blesses your heart. During my devotion time i read about Jochebed (Moses mother).

So often we focus on Moses and his bringing the children of Isreal into the promise land we forget to look and see where he came from ?

Moses mother had to have the "faith" to put her three month old baby in a basket and allow God to be his protection. Wouldn't you know that her remarkable faith brought her a return of not only being able to raise her own baby and nurse him for three years but also to get payed from Pharaoh himself ? Crazy right. Exodus 2:7-9 talks bout all that.

Ecclisisastes 11:1 tells us to "Cast your bread upon the waters,for you will find it after many days."

I'm praying that the faith you have to cast out whatever it is you are asking for would be just like Jochebed as she cast her bread out on the waters (moses) it returned to her, and the children of Isreal.

Jochebed defied the King's order to kill her newborn son and throw him in the water in doing so she gave the world Moses.

Are you going to defy all reasonable limits by stepping out and asking God for something HUGE and life changing something that is uniting people and planting seeds that you may never see ? What is the world going to remember you by ? What you stood for and stepped out into or what you were against ?

I want to be known for what i stood for, How I loved and my Faith, just to name a few!

First Day.

I can't believe we are already done with our first day!

Wow. umm i can say it went really well :)

A few glitches but hey no one knows but me right ?

So what did our day look like ?

Organized~ Yes!

Full of Jesus ~ Yes!

Lot's of Learning ~ Yes!

Creativity ~ Yes!

We got everything done in about 2 hours! I thought to myself this can't be right, so i googled how long it should take me....okay laugh because i know you are.

I found out in my google search what my children learn in an hour of one and one they would be learning in a week of school. wow.

Today we accomplished to get dressed, do chores, eat breakfast do devotions, and all our school work!

I am in the process of making a necklace to match the shirt beauty from ashes, well not match the shirt but go with the verse.

Isaiah 61.

I don't know about you but this section is some of my favorite words from this verse.

o proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,

3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise

So Ben and I have went back and forth on the "homeschooling issue" for a long time. Do we don't we do we don't we. And even after making our decision i still question it. However, there are times that God's voice is clear and we must listen and so listen we have. We feel that God has told us to homeschool our children this year. I'm not looking for an argument nor am i looking to be judged, but there are a ton of good and positive things that come out of homeschooling. There are also ton's of great things that come out of regular schooling.

There is however something that has stuck out to me for a long time. I see the school and have heard it re feared to as a "battle zone". I see the need for our children to be light in the dark I can't see sending my Kindergartner and my 1st grader into a battle field unarmed. As we do arm our children at home with the word of GOd i was starting to see that in the morning i have maybe an hour before they are headed off to school and then when they get home about 4 hours to really pour into their life's. ( in-between bath, dinner and homework or activities ).To me i found myself frustrated more because they were hungry and tired and they seemed to be getting in more trouble and there wasn't much shaping going on.esus says, in Matthew 5:13, “You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing, but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” Our young children are very impressionable. How can we expose them to the world, to the point of saturation, before they are adequately trained to withstand the pressures and temptations, only to be trampled underfoot?

Above all else, we feel it is our God-given duty and responsibility to teach and train our own children. God’s written Word has quite a bit to say about this responsibility. As parents, we are given stewardship over our children (Psalm 127:3) and are accountable to God. I will answer to my God regarding how my children were raised, not the government or anyone else, since it is my sole responsibility.

In Deuteronomy 6:7, just after we are commanded to love the Lord, with all our heart, soul and might, parents are told to “teach (this command) diligently to your children, and talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.” In Proverbs 6, we are told to “train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it (the right path)”. And Ephesians 6:4 instructs fathers to “not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” God has given us, as parents, specific instructions. He expects us to spend a very significant amount of time with our children, throughout the course of every day, teaching them and training them.

Do i think that this task is going to be easy. uh no. But if God has called us he is already there waiting for us.I have many other reasons but i think i've said enough.

Connor is turning 4 in October and will begin Kindergarten lessons. He will stay there until he can move on and knows the things taught to him.

A little smoky ?

So the last 24 hours has been somewhat interesting. I have realized how much I really love food. That my bathrooms need a deep cleaning, That I am irritable when i don't have food in my belly, and that there is never a dull moment in our home!

So let's begin with Tuesday morning which was a day of fasting for me ( uh completely involuntarily ). I had to "prep" for a Colonoscopy. Clear liquids only all day Tuesday and all day Wednesday until my Colonoscopy was done. Scheduled for 11:30, that's along time without food! I feel like such a gluten thinking about the kids in our own country who don't even get to eat at all, and i'm complaining about a day! Oh and did i mention that some of the prep was done at choir practice! Oh yes i had it in my McDonalds tea cup, and had to keep sneaking off to the restroom. Then I heard the kids screaming and there was a Bat, yes a bat flying around the church. Anyways so i get through the prep and i am up on and off all night visiting our not so deep cleaned bathrooms.

This morning i had to wake up and finish another liter of the lovely cocktail they provided. Once I finished my cocktail and made a few trips back to the bathroom i cuddled up with my hubby and fell back to sleep. We live in an old country house that was remodeled and is gorgeous however the brains behind the operation forgot to think about maybe investing in some good old Air Conditioning. So we have a window unit. My oldest two children had a pow wow in front of the window unit last night to keep cool. Well this morning after i fell back into my deep slumber my hubby and I were awoken to a smoky smell that just happened to be filling up the bedroom where two of our children were sleeping. Our other daughter was asleep in the room on the otherside of the smoky one. We hopped up and he ran into the room to the kids and i got the fire extinguisher (and my wedding ring) just in case there was a visable fire. Praise THe Lord there was not! He unplugged the window unit and sparks were flying. CRAZY! Anyways the Fire Dept came and checked the walls and gave us the clear, but let me tell you by the time that fiasco was over it was time to go to my appt. My husband asked are you nervous I said i haven't had time to think about it!

I looked down and realized the first shirt i grabbed this morning was from our Fearless Conference and it was the shirt that says "Bring It" . Dear Lord what was I asking for. Then i was reminded of the scripture on it the shirt and it says There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out all fear. God loves me so much and does not desire fear to be in me. Needless to say the house is good and Praise The Lord the colonoscopy went great and the results are amazing as well! Thank you Jesus for your protection today and your healing of my body! I am a little weak and my belly is a little woozy but wow what a day!

I wish i could put into words how amazing my husband is! I mean really he is so great! He is a great husband, a great father he is just so good to us.

I seriously think me and blogger have some real issues staying connected. Actually we have been non stop this summer. Literally. Between traveling for my husbands music and visiting family and working and playing. I have only used facebook as my internet connection.

I was so heart broken that I was in the hospital the day of Madalynne's last day of school. My husband was amazing however and he went and picked up flowers and brought them to her at school (with the other two babies in tow). He also took her to lunch for a special time! He even managed to grab a few pictures on her last day.

Two weeks ago we had a great time at Madalynne's class. We had Pizza and fruit and some fun desserts. Madalynne got to play Bingo, Play outside, have activities in the Gym and also share some poems with us.

Well last Monday night I took a very unexpected trip to the ER that had me in and out of the hospital until Friday. Last week is pretty much gone in my books. During the course of last week i experienced lots of love and prayer along with a lot of medical test.
I have some more test to come but am giving it to God for he is in control.

Summer Fun.

Summer Fun!!!
So summer is going to be here before we know it! All my kids will be home with me starting Thursday afternoon and I can't wait!!!!

However I know i need to have a plan in place of what we can do to make it a great summer!

Here are some (a lot) ideas that i hope you all enjoy. Let me know what you think of this list or if you have anything you would like to add.

*Check for cheap or free movie showings at local theaters.
*Library story time for the younger kids.
*Join the summer reading program at your local library.
*Plant a small garden. (This will give the kids something to take care of and look forward to- something growing!)
Or at least a few potted plants.
*Make a fun lunch. Everyone be in charge of a part of it (IE: dessert, drinks, etc.) and take it to the park and eat and play Frisbee.
*Spend a day the beach. (around here we will go to Clover Beach in Linden, and hopefully make it to the U.P or the west coast to play)
*Take some white T-shirts and decorate them outside.
*Unplug the T.V other than for maybe a rainy day movie :)
*Slip-n-slide is always a favorite.
*Family bike rides.
*Make lemonade from lemons.(Watch for a great recipe to come!)
*Go get ice cream :)

Madalynne is prepping up for her first dance recital. I'm not sure who's more excited me or her. Tuesday night we had dance recital practice for them to see the big stage! If your in the area this is a great studio with amazing owners & teachers.

So welcome to my new blog. I hope some of you have come over from my old blog, and decided to follow me!

Let me explain the blog change, the name change, well let me just explain.

I have always loved to create weather it be sewing, making jewelry, cooking or baking that is who I am.

Last year I began a company and started making hand stamped jewelry. The business took off very well for me, however by Christmas I never wanted to look at the post office, email or my stamping tools EVER again.

That only lasted a little bit…anyone who knows me knows that I have to be doing something crafty. So I am re~inventing my self. I am taking down my Etsy store and opening up a new one ;) and also you will find me on a new website called Twolia.

So why the new name ? Well I choose The Vintage Lane for a reason. Vintage means a period of time when something new appeared or began, and Lane is obviously a narrow path. This year God has been doing many things in my heart that someday it’s going to be timeless treasures in someone’s life. A Legacy. The new period of my life in years will appear to be Vintage but it will have worth and value. Why the word Lane ? Well because I believe that I’m walking down a long lane of life. Sometimes it’s curvy sometimes it’s straight but no matter what Jesus is always walking in front of me or in the hard times he is carrying me!

This new blog is going to be a reflection of Jesus, who he is and what he does. It will also be about my family little odds and ins and probably a whole lot of pictures! It will also be a place where I show you how our family is doing our best to be Jesus hands and feet. I will also share my favorite recipes, tips and tricks to things I have learned, and of course all my crafting creations and special deals I may run!
